Working with the Smithsonian Institution
Mid-American Rare Coin Galleries has developed a close working relationship with the Smithsonian Institution through Jeff Garrett, the company’s founder and president. Over the last decade, Jeff has been active in various Smithsonian Institution projects developed to advance numismatics. Jeff sucessfully organized a fundraising effort that raised $1.5 million to underwrite a new Smithsonian Institution coin exhibit in the Museum of American History. The "Value of Money" Exhibit is interactive and now open for everyone to come see and enjoy! In addition, Jeff has spent thousands of hours researching, inventorying and grading the U.S. collection. This massive project had never been done in such detail. The information from this effort is available on the Smithsonian Institution’s website. Details regarding U.S. gold coins are also available in the popular, award-winning book, Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins 1795–1933, co-authored by Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth. Jeff shares all his knowledge with the entire Mid-American team, and no one benefits more from this expertise than our customers.
